IPPA Organizes Community Picnic
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Irvine Pakistani Parents Association (IPPA) hosted a “Fun day in the park,” a community picnic event at Mason Regional Park in Irvine. Current IPPA Secretary, Mrs. Uzma Hussain stated: "We have a diverse group of Pakistanis living in Irvine and Orange County and we want to bring them all together through this picnic to introduce our organization.” The event attracted more than 450 people from Irvine and surrounding cities. Kids took part in arts and crafts, as well as other activities, while the parents and adults were treated to musical entertainment from Tahir Khan. Some of the parents even took to the mic to showcase their musical talents through a karaoke session.
Farhan Aziz, who organized the Irvine Premier League, earlier this year, mentioned“after the success of the IPL, the IPPA is re-energized. We have a fantastic platform and our city officials and schools know us very well. We want to build on this and remain active, so Inshallah, you will continue to see us actively involved in our community, and in promoting our goals. Stay connected!”
Mrs. Mehwish Shoaib, who was instrumental in organizing the picnic acknowledged the fantastic volunteer base that has come forward in promoting the IPPA and its agenda. “Myself, Darakshan Malik, Almas Asif and many others have observed the IPPA since last year, and we believe in what the IPPA
does – it is politics free and works for our schools, our kids and our culture.”
The event served up a variety of foods, including Pakistani, Arab and halal pizza. Friends of the Pakistani community, Paul Bokota, who is running for a position on the Irvine School Board, and Gavin Huntley-Fenner (running for Irvine City Council) were also present with their families and addressed the crowd with encouraging words of support for the Pakistani community.
