Nearly 300 people attended Irvine Pakistani Parents Association's “Colors From the Indus,” a fashion extravaganza on Nov. 2 featuring some of the best designers from Pakistan. The exclusive show is one of many annual events organized by the association to benefit the Irvine Public Schools Foundation and Irvine schools.
On Tuesday, donations were still being tallied and an exact amount raised was unavailable. A fashion show that was hosted by the group in 2010 raised $15,000 for the Irvine Public Schools Foundation, said Farhan Aziz, president of the Irvine Pakistani Parents Association.
Designers showcased bright, intricate and beautiful designs representing the regions along the River Indus in Pakistan, from Sindh in the south to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the north. Their collections featured casual, semi-casual, formal and bridal wear. The designers included: Amir Adnan, FNK Asia, Nida Azwer, Samreen's Closet, Sania Maskatiya and Zainab Chottani.
The event was held at the historic Belasco Night Club in downtown Los Angeles, and CBS/KCAL reporter Suraya Fadel was the emcee for the evening. Irvine City Council member Beth Krom, as well as Irvine Public Schools Foundation Chief Executive Officer Neda Eaton attended. A number of celebrities, including Faran Tahir (“Escape Plan,” “Torn,” “Elysium,” “Iron Man”), Iqbal Theba of “Glee” (Principal Figgins) and celebrity stylist Shayoon Aboo attended in support of the Irvine Pakistani Parent Association, as well as the Los Angeles Police Department and its community outreach unit.
